Description:
Latvia is one of the 15 countries that once formed part of the Soviet Union. In the northwest of the former Soviet Republic a military unit was placed. Soldiers and missile officers served there. Nearby, there was a military town where they lived with their families. You can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the late Soviet Union, see with your own eyes the life of the Soviet military, all facilities and equipment on which they had to work. You will walk through an underground tunnel that served as a secret passage to the radio telescopes. You'll see a functioning radio telescope and “walk” on the old antenna. Learn many interesting things about what was hidden behind the facade of regular military service.
In the second part of the tour, we will visit Ventspils, a harbour town on the Baltic Sea. You can enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of the old City by walking through its paved streets with wooden buildings constructed more than 3 centuries ago, appreciate the magnificence of the ancient castle of the Livonian Order of the 13th century, and admire the incredible modern architecture of reflecting light and brilliant copper tones of the science center’s building.
In Ventspils you will have a traditional Latvian lunch in the tavern and (optionally) a local beer tasting.
