Description:
Just 80 kilometers from Riga lies Rundale Palace, the pearl of the Latvian Baroque, the work of the great architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. This splendid palace-park ensemble was built in the 18th century for the Duke of Curland, Ernst Johann Biron. Every corner of the castle delights with its refined architecture and exquisite Baroque and Rococointeriors.
After centuries of desolation, the palace experienced extensive restoration lasting over 50 years. Today, it regains its glory, and guests can enjoy the front rooms, the private chambers of the Duke, and the magnificent French garden designed in the best traditions of baroque gardens. Such gardens appeared first in France at the Sun King Louis XIV's royal court. These strictly geometric lines of the garden became an integral part of the palace ensemble and display the idea of the ruler's greatness.
An excursion to Rundale Palace is a journey back to the times of magnificent balls, royal intrigues and a brilliant aristocracy.
